Caring of your Peridot

When buying peridot, keep in principles that peridot is relatively soft gems no matter what origin they are (6 ½ on the Mohs hardness scale) and should be used in jewelry that are not subjected to daily wearing if set in the ring. If you are buying loose Peridot and wanted to give them to setter for mount them in the piece of jewelry, be sure to remind your setter that peridot is sensitive to thermal shock or rapid temperature changes. Many peridots have been damaged at the jewelry workshop because items containing peridot were immediately soaked in cold water after soldering process.

Peridots have tendency to lose their can sparkling and luster if they contact with acidity solution such as lemonade, sulfuric or hydrochloric acid.
